ABOUT US

Wababaland is a home-based bakery and food lab started by Jenna Wang and Alec Babala in Hartland, Vermont.

Jenna is a self-taught chef with a background in product and delivery management, and Alec is a designer and photographer who runs his own design studio.

When we met in 2017 as coworkers in San Francisco, we worked together building software products, daydreaming about one day changing the world with our own ideas. Having grown up in Vermont and New Hampshire, we also bonded deeply on our experiences growing up as Asian Americans in New England.

In 2022, we made our way back east, finding home on the VT/ NH border in the Upper Valley. After getting married in 2023, we threw a big celebration at our house which we called Wababalands—a party that embodied the magic we've found in collaborating and partnering with each other, and the joy we experience in sharing that with others.

As a name, “Wababaland” holds a world of possibility—an homage to our younger, daydreaming selves—and it is also rooted in our cherished partnership and the magic that comes about when we collaborate.

Today, Wababaland is our way of continuing to share this love and collaboration through food. Part of our shared culture as Asian-Americans is hearing and asking the question, "have you eaten yet?" — a common question in Asian cultures that is a way of showing care for another's well-being.

For Jenna, preparing food for others is the ultimate expression of care and connection. She believes that everyone deserves to eat something great, and is excited to bring food inspired by her years eating in San Francisco with Alec and growing up in a Chinese-American household to the Upper Valley.
